Aboobaker Sayed qualified as a Podiatrist at the former TWR today known as the University of Johannesburg in 2002. He has more than 9 years of experience in the field of podiatry. Initially he practiced as a podiatrist in the United Kingdom and during his stay he gained tremendous amount of clinical experience working in the NHS Hospitals in various multi disciplinary settings. Being overseas in a country where the history and role of Podiatry are relatively advanced than in South Africa, He took every opportunity in furthering his education by attending a number of postgraduate courses and workshops on different aspects of Podiatric Medicine. Ranging from Dermatological courses, Biomechanical courses, Advanced wound care management and he also attended a number of Conferences
In 2006 he joined the University of Johannesburg as a lecturer in Podiatric Medicine and in 2007 was promoted to as Program Manager of the Department of Podiatry. Given the demands of running a private practice and managing the university's administrative duties, he resigned during 2008 from the university to be in full time practice.
Sayed serves as a co-opted Executive member on the South
African Podiatry Association (SAPA). He is also member of the South African
Sports Medicine Association (SASMA) and is registered with Registered
with The Health Professionals Council of South Africa and The Board of
Health Care Funders of South Africa. Sayed is actively involved in social
welfare work and is the Chairperson of the youth group of Saaberie Chishty
Society.
His special interests are in Podiatric Sports Medicine; Podo- Pediatrics
management of the Diabetic Foot, Nail and other surgical procedures. Currently
He is in the process of completing an MSc Degree in Sports Science with
the University of Witwatersrand.
